We were approached to design the interiors of the ground floor main entrance lobby of an existing office building in the city centre of Adelaide, South Australia. Designed to incorporate a two-tiered lobby system for security purposes to differentiate the public from semi-public/private, the design inspiration came from looking at how we could merge two different cultural identities (Borneo and South Australia) into a single interior space. Inspired by the warmth and colour tones of the Australian desert, a palette composed of local Australian materials such as Blue Gum timber, sandstone, bluestone constrasted with polished steel and glass was used throughout the space. Indigenous Aborigina; art and Borneo traditional textiles were selected as wall artworks to add to the cultural richness of the space.
This project was completed in 2012 and featured in Architecture Malaysia magazine.
