Kinderplay is a children’s play café situated in an up-and-coming commercial hub in Kuching, Sarawak. Situated on the first floor of a typical modern shop house, the space is spread over 2 adjoining shop-lots to create defined areas for children’s free play, reading, arts & craft as well as an event space to hold private functions.

Specifically designed and conceived for children between the      2 – 7 years’ age group, we used this opportunity to explore different ways of creating unique and fun-learning spaces that encouraged children to use their motor skills and hone their curiosities and sensory skills.

We started to look at children’s stories as inspirations – such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – and interpreted the themes from the books into built forms such as the tree house, the library reading nooks and slide. The result is a series of spaces with a continuous theme flowing through aimed at igniting the spark of children’s imaginations and wonders.
